CHAPTER SEVENTEEN: DELANEY

He’s waiting on his porch for me when I pull up in front of his house, and I’ve never seen a more gorgeous sight than the man I love. I feel it everywhere within me—it starts in my chest and spreads out all the way down to the tips of my toes and up into my face, which breaks into an immediate smile despite the morning I had.

His smile matches mine as I get out of the car and walk up the driveway. A smattering of photographers is lined up across the street, and I don’t even care. I walk right up to Gavin and plant a kiss on his mouth that I’ll be dreaming about for the next week.

He pulls me tightly against him and deepens the kiss, and suddenly there aren’t any photographers or football players or drama or gossip show hosts. It’s just Gavin and me and this intimate moment on his porch.

“Come on in,” he says once he pulls away, his voice husky as he opens the door. I turn and give a little wave and a huge grin to the photographers across the street, and he just chuckles and shakes his head as he allows me to walk in first.

He slams the door behind him, and then he shoves me up against it, his mouth crashing back down to mine in the most intense kiss of my life. It really is just us here, but it wouldn’t matter if it wasn’t. This kiss feels like all the pent up need, desire, and desperation we each have for the other coming to a head after weeks...months...even years of skirting around it.

I came here to tell him what went down with Chase this morning. I need to let him know that what I had with him is well and truly over before I hop right into his bed, no matter how tempting that sounds right now.

I indulge in his mouth a little longer before finally breaking away. My head thuds against the door, prompting a small giggle from both of us.

“So I have some news...” I start, trailing off in an effort to tease him.

“Does it have to do with the football player being a douchebag?”

I purse my lips and nod slowly. “A total douchebag.”

“Dane texted me early this morning with a link.” He motions toward his kitchen, and I follow him in as our conversation continues. “Do you want anything to eat?”

I take a seat at the table. “Sure.”

“I’m really good at toast. Want toast?”

I giggle. “Yes, that sounds perfect.”

He gets to work and circles back to the revelations from this morning. “I watched it but I want to hear it from you.”

“Rose came by at seven to show me. We watched it and Chase must’ve caught most of it even though I didn’t see him come into the room. I told him I never wanted to see him again and to get out.”

He concentrates on putting two pieces of bread in the toaster. “And that was it? He just went?” He pushes the lever down so the bread can toast.
